This wonderful, two-character production coverts the lives of two sisters, ages 103 and 101, who have survived Jim Crow laws, the death of Martin Luther King, the Clarence Thomas hearings and the release of Nelson Mandela. Although they did not see Barack Obama become president, their insights to the changing times have much to say for us today.
The play stars Valerie Sims Bryant as Sarah L. Delany – ‘Sadie’ and Valerie Mills-Cooper as A. Elizabeth Delany – ‘Bessie’. These two sisters “balance each other out” beautifully as the elder sister, Sadie, (Bryant) conveys an amiable view of the world while her sister, Bessie (Mills-Cooper), is confrontational and, occasionally, must “eat crow.”
